Are you still living in the past as a Hospitality business?

In season 3 & season 4 of our Talking Hospitality podcast you will hear this a lot:
There are two types of businesses:
Those who have learned from lockdown and Brexit; and those who still think it's 2015.
Having worked closely with a number of Hospitality businesses in recent months, this is the only conclusion I can come to.
There are those businesses who think that things should be the same as before, operate the same way as before, and treat the staff the same or are more demanding than before.
Those that are living in the past.
Then there are those that are looking to the future.
Those that are more forward thinking, more aware of the issues in hand and recognise that there has been in a shift in working mentality.
At a time when recruitment is harder than ever, and staff attraction and retention is key, it is more important than ever to look after your current workforce.
Your employees are your ambassadors.
With smaller teams, more flexibility is naturally required in terms of skills sets and people.
Are you one of the employers that are simply "too busy" - or are you one of those who is prepared to invest in their team?
A cross industry survey recently revealed that:
-
76% of potential employees said that a company would be more appealing if it offered additional skills training,
-
59% of millennials claiming development opportunities are extremely important when deciding whether to apply for a position
-
74% of employees saying that they are not reaching full potential due to lack of development opportunities

These are big numbers indeed – upskilling should be a major concern to all businesses.
One of the major concerns for Hospitality businesses right now, understandably, is cost.
However, upskilling and development needn’t cost thousands nor does it need to be time-consuming.
With 70% of employees saying they would look to leave their current company for a company that provides learning & development training, isn’t time to leave the past behind and become a business of the future?
Upskilling your team needn't be expensive, or time consuming, either.
